Poets in Residence

WHY Kate created the Poetry in Business Conference:
Wasted talent and skills – one of the 8 sources of waste in TIM WOODS – is happening right under our noses. Poets possess extraordinary abilities in creativity, innovation, meaning-making, and emotional insight, yet organisations desperately struggling to be creative, innovative, and human-centric are losing access to these very talents. This waste of human potential hurts both poets and the businesses they work in.
Kate’s VISION is for every organisation, event and conference to employ a poet in residence every time they think of hiring a photographer for the visual images they hire a poet to capture the verbal imagery and emotions, because as Maya Angelou said
People will forget what you said
Forget what you did
But never forget how you made them feel
HOW Kate is making this vision a reality:
Through co-creation with our incredible Business Poet community and creative collaborators we are demonstrating, the value of Poetry in Business. This year we’re going hybrid – combining accessible online experiences with intimate, face-to-face satellite events that bring participants together, to make meaning and transfer the learning form the conference to their everyday.
The Poetry in Business Conference is…
- A Community of practice for business poets.
- Creating human centric workplaces through language.
- Finding the beauty and truth in your workplace so that you and many more people thrive.
- A route to Neuroinclusion.
- The result of 10 years of Kate exploring the Power of Poetry to Make a Positive Impact in the workplace.
- Where poetry, science and enterprise overlap.
This is what it means to Kate our founder, come and find out what Poetry in Business means to you.
Poetry in Business Conference 2024 review – The Bridge
The first ever Poetry in Business Conference was a landmark event, uniting creative expression and corporate enterprise to show how poetry can inspire more human, innovative workplaces.
As a poet in residence, I was privileged to capture the essence of each session, weaving together the insights and themes shared by speakers and panellists—adding a creative layer of reflection throughout the day.
Special thanks to Kate Jenkinson, whose vision made this space possible. Her belief in poetry’s role within business continues to inspire new ways of thinking and leading.

Entrepreneurs, leaders, and creatives are set to discover how poetry could be their secret business advantage.
“Unless we focus on our humanity, our businesses will become functional yet dull,” says founder Dr Kate Jenkinson. “Poetic creativity sustains innovation, growth, engagement, and wellbeing. This event shows how accessible and powerful it can be in the workplace.”
The conference includes an exclusive conversation between Deb Alma, Founder of the Poetry Pharmacy and Mark Constantine OBE, CEO and Co-Founder of Lush about their poetry coaching and new book, marketing and brand storytelling, and how poetic creativity engages our full brain and attention in the workplace.
“Although it might seem that the worlds of poetry and business are miles apart, I’m convinced that poetry has a significant role to play in developing a more philosophical engagement with the working practices in the corporate world and in helping business people in both their thinking and in navigating any uncertainties,” says Deb.
